What is Crohn?s Disease?
Crohn's Disease is a chronic inflammation of the intestinal track. While Crohn's Disease usually causes ulceration in the small and large intestines, however it may affect any of the four major parts of the intestinal tract.
The four major parts of the intestinal track include the esophagus, the stomach, the small bowel, and the colon & rectum. The disease is as likely to occur in men as in women and typically begins to affects people in their teens and early twenties.
Once started, the disease typically becomes cronic. The two primary sites for Crohn's is the ileum, which is the last part of the small bowel and the colon.
The condition typically begins as small inflammations which fluctuate in their severity.
The inflammations will alternate between times of acute inflammation and remission.
