Properties :

Bitter and sour in flavor, neutral in nature, it acts on the liver and kidney channels.

Used widely in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) for its effects of promoting the circulation of Qi and lowering the upward flow of Qi by its bitterness, and promoting blood circulation to restore menstruation, conducting downward flow of heat and inducing diuresis to treat strangury. Also used to treat amenorrhea due to blood stasis, hematemesis and epistaxis due to blood-heat, strangury due to heat, and other strengthening.*

Other TCM uses are for tonifying the liver and kidney, trengthening the bones and muscles, and is used to treat various syndromes caused by deficiency of liver and kidney.*
