Description:

Cymbopogon Citratus, or lemon grass, is a traditional herb used in Thai cooking.

Originating in Ceylon, it is now found all over the world from Cambodia, India, Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Taiwan, and Thailand, to Tanzania and Kenya in Africa, to the West Indies and South America.

Properties :

Active ingredients include alkaloids, sterols and terpenes, as well as a variety of essential oils including citral, limonene, linalool, myrcene geraniol, can decanal.

Traditional Medicinal Uses:

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, lemon grass has been used to treat headaches, bloating, stomach aches, respiratory problems, colds, flu, fever, and rheumatic pains. It is also called fever grass because it is traditionally used with other herbs in the treatment of fevers, irregular menstruation, diarrhea, and digestive problems.  Other TCM uses are as a periodic cleanser and as a blood purifier and is known to increase perspiration and relieve muscle spasms.*

In Africa, lemon grass has been used for fevers and jaundice, and as a body wash. It has tightening effect on the body's tissues, helping to stop or slow discharge from mucous membranes.*

It is used in Central and South America for nervous conditions, and to help regulate blood pressure.*
